President Obama’s plan to close Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) is raising concerns as detainees continue to be released.
The Obama administration has just removed two of the top explosives experts from the Islamic terrorist organization al-Qaida from Gitmo despite records labeling them as “HIGH risk” threats to the U.S.
The Department of Defense confirmed Wednesday that two Gitmos prisoners have been transferred to Senegal and were former personnel of al-Qaida, according to a report by Fox News.
Both Salem Abdu Salam Ghereby and Omar Khalif Mohammed Abu Baker Mahjour Umar are expected to reengage in terrorist activities upon their liberation, a government memo from 2008 said.
Umar had previously “threatened to kill U.S. personnel on several occasions,” and was revealed to have ties to leading officials within al-Qaida.
Ghereby was labeled a threat to the U.S. as far back as the mid-1990s, with a DOD report stating he “is assessed to be a HIGH risk, as he is likely to pose a threat to the U.S., its interests and allies.”
Last month, BizPac Review reported how the DOD recently admitted that previous Gitmo detainees have actually killed Americans since being released from the detention center.
