A number of prominent Republican war hawks, who served in George W. Bush’s administration, are ready to elect Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton if Donald Trump is the GOP nominee.

Bush administration officials like R. Nicholas Burns have noted that they are supporting Clinton because “she is for American engagement in the world,” according to a report by the Washington Times.

“After [Ohio Gov. John] Kasich, the one best prepared to handle my narrow lane in the road was Hillary Clinton,” said former CIA Chief Michael Hayden on MSNBC. “With Mr. Trump it’s very clear, I can’t create any parallax between the points of light that he throws out during his campaign stops – you know when all the lines come together and I can see what is the motivational impulse. I don’t see it, all I see are stray electrons and that makes someone like me very, very uncomfortable.”

The Bush-era disdain for Trump on foreign policy is no surprise: The GOP front-runner has long been against the Iraq War, spending billions on NATO and nation-building overseas, all components that Republican hawks staunchly defend.

Although, the electorate is on Trump’s side.

In a new Rasmussen poll, only 28 percent of U.S. likely voters said the country should be promoting democracy and nation-building in Islamic countries.

Compare that to a whopping 58 percent of voters who said the U.S. should leave Islamic countries alone, while 14 percent said they were undecided on the issue.
