An al-Qaeda-linked newspaper is aligning itself more so with a Hillary Clinton presidency than a Donald Trump administration.

In a report by al-Masra, an online publication connected to al-Qaeda, the newspaper blasted a Trump presidency as being a “drastic change,” according to The Hill. Meanwhile, al-Masra said a Clinton presidency would merely be an “extension” of President Obama.

“As for the victory of Hillary Clinton, it will be an extension of the policy of Obama and the Democrats in the region, while the victory of Trump will be a drastic change in American policy towards Muslims, since the hostility that Trump bears and the Islamophobia from which he suffers will have a huge impact in the conflict in the Middle East region and the Muslim countries in general,” the al-Qaeda-linked newspaper reported.

The anti-Trump sentiment of al-Masra is not entirely surprising. The GOP front-runner has been a hardliner on securing the country’s borders in order to avoid terrorist attacks, calling for a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration into the country and speaking about “knocking the hell out of ISIS.”

On the other hand, Clinton’s views on terrorism are similar to that of President Obama’s views. Clinton prefers not to call Muslim extremism by associating it with the Islamic faith, thus soft-pedaling the ties between our terrorist enemies and the faith they profess.

The newspaper also argued that Trump’s anti-Muslim politics reflect more accurately the sentiment of Americans while those like Clinton who profess not to be anti-Islamic in practice or policy are hiding their true colors, so to speak. The translation below was provided by the Wall Street Journal:

While the allies of America in the region tend to be apprehensive, some other observers see that Trump is the clearest in expressing the American opinion about Islam, but he lacks political experience. Others chose the way of caution and policy to hide the real face of being anti-Islamic, for the sake of interfering effectively in the issues of the Middle East and securing the interests of the United States and Israel in the region.
