A waitress is defending herself after she posted what many called a rude tweet about former President George W. Bush.
Bush and his wife Laura were served by Leisa Smith and gave her a $40 tip on a $21.47 bill and posed for a picture with her, Smith told Mic.com
Afterwards, she posted the picture to her Twitter page with the caption “Bush did 911 but he did me a solid and left me a hella tip #,” to mock, she said, an old tweet with the same saying.
The tweet went viral and caused many on social media to rage against her.
But Smith said Bush was “the sweetest person” she ever met, and said the tweet was only meant as a joke to her small Twitter following of about 200 at the time.
“I have a couple of friends that use the meme a lot and they were the only ones I was expecting to see the tweet. I was just trying to get a laugh out of my friends but I in no way actually believe the conspiracy,” she told Mic.com.
“I actually completely respect Bush and I don’t think he actually ‘did 9/11,'” she said. “It was just a little tip at the huge joke that everyone says, and I didn’t expect anyone to see the tweet except my 200 followers at the time.”
Leisa sent out another tweet on Sunday trying to clarify her position.

But that wasn’t enough for many who were still angry with the waitress and they let her know of their disapproval.
