For Mexicans this year, Easter Sunday will be all about lighting Donald Trump ablaze. Literally.
Artisan Leonardo Linares in Mexico City, Mexico, is set to make a papier-mâché Trump and set it on fire Easter Sunday in order to celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ over evil, according to a report by the Guardian.
Linares said that the papier-mâché “Judas-like” figure turned into an effigy is a yearly tradition. Normally, prominent Mexican leaders are chosen to be set on fire for the event.
This year, Linares chose Trump because of his hard-line stance that the U.S. should protect its borders with Mexico.
“With all of the stupid things he has said about Mexicans, I thought people would like to see him burning as Judas,” Linares told the Guardian. “I think he’s just saying these things to become famous. Who knows if he actually believes it.”
This is not the first time Trump has been mocked in Mexican culture. Memes, cartoons and piñatas have all been used against the GOP front-runner by Mexicans.
