The ‘Never Trump’ hashtag campaign perpetuated by Republican Party elites and top conservatives seems to be plummeting more than ever.
Yet Sen. Ted Cruz continues to claim that if it were a head-to-head match between himself and GOP front-runner Donald Trump, he would easily win.
A new poll out today proves Cruz’s theory wrong, according to the Daily Mail.
In a Quinnipiac University survey, 43 percent of GOP voters picked Trump as their first choice to be the nominee. Only 29 percent said Cruz was their first choice and 16 percent said Ohio Gov. John Kasich was their first choice.
According to the Cruz campaign, if Kasich were to exit the race, they believe he would receive the bulk of Kasich’s votes. Nonetheless, that’s simply not the case.
When asked who their second choice would be in the GOP primary, 46 percent of Kasich voters said they would pick Trump and only 37 percent said Cruz.
Additionally, when Cruz voters were asked who their second choice would be if their first choice dropped out of the race, a whopping 56 percent said they would select Trump. Only about 25 percent said they would pick Kasich.
The poll went on to find that Trump beats Cruz and Kasich in just about every demographic of GOP voters.
The only category Trump loses to Cruz is among voters who identify as “very conservative.” Those voters split between Cruz and Trump 47 to 42 percent, respectively.
