A middle school teacher in the Bronx gave her eighth-grade students a crash course on the harsh reality of ISIS terrorism — by showing her students a beheading video.
Alexiss Nazario, a 26-year teacher with an annual salary of $105,000, faced a recommendation for termination from the South Bronx Academy for Applied Media and the Department of Education (DOE) after the stunt last year.
“This teacher demonstrated a complete lack of judgment, and this incident betrayed our schools’ promise to provide a safe and supportive environment,” DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye said.
Without asking for permission to play the clip from the principal nor previewing it first, Nazario played a video of an ISIS beheading that showed the before and aftermath of the brutal butchery with the severed head placed on the chest of the victim, reported the New York Post.
The students were horrified.
“I’m scared at what I just saw. Ms. Nazario showed a beheading video and I was really scared,” one girl told investigators from the Office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation, reported the Post.
Another student was so “uncomfortable” after viewing it, he couldn’t sleep, and commented that “It was gross.”
Nazario first said the students were egging her on to play the clip, then later told the Post that she had been searching for a different video and accidentally played the beheading.
“I was scrolling looking for a specific video. I clicked on the wrong thing. It was a mistake. It was an error,” she said. “I freaked out. I had no idea that was playing.”
Nonetheless, one of her students remembered her saying that “This is what’s going on in the real world,” the Post reported.
An abrupt and brutal introduction to the real world, to say the least.
Nazario is now a roaming substitute teacher.
