Rubio out, Trump up; latest poll should have Cruz, establishment quaking

It doesn’t look like Marco Rubio supporters are flocking to Trump’s competition like many were hoping for.

Since Sen. Rubio exited the GOP presidential primary race, Donald Trump’s lead against Sen. Ted Cruz remains strong and his numbers continue to rise.

In a new Rasmussen poll out today, Trump is leading Cruz nationally 43% to 28% with likely GOP primary voters. Another 21% of voters went for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who recently won his home state in their primary. Only 5% of voters said they wanted to vote for another candidate and just 3% said they were undecided.

Trump swept four state primaries this week, helping him maintain his 15 point lead against Cruz in national polls. Similarly, though, Cruz and Kasich have both made smaller gains since Rubio suspended his presidential bid.

In other Rasmussen polls, Trump continues to lead with both female and male Republican voters, as well as with self-described “conservatives,” who support the New York businessman with 42% to Cruz’s 37%.

The national telephone survey of 719 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports on March 16-17, 2016. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
