Whole Foods’Â pre-peeled oranges, that are packed and sealed in chunky plastics packages, sparked controversy from earth-minded social media users.
One eco-friendly patron, Nathalie Gordon, recognized the company’s marketing failure with this simple tweet:
If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn’t need to waste so much plastic on them. pic.twitter.com/00YECaHB4D

Recognizing the inconsistency of the product with their entire ethos, Whole Foods pulled the pre-peeled oranges from the shelves.
@awlilnatty Definitely our mistake. These have been pulled. We hear you, and we will leave them in their natural packaging: the peel.

Folks on social media still weren’t happy. Apparently, some felt the pre-peeled citrus fruit was convenient for customers with arthritis and other such disabilities.
