What will be next to come off the traditional German menu to appease the massive influx of migrants pouring into the country — beer?
Imagine pork being banned at your local fast-food joint or school because it offends a minority population who chooses not to eat it … now imagine that happening right now in Germany where the consumption of pork and sausage is integral to the local culture.
Members of Angela Merkel’s CPU party in Schelswig-Holstein state have initiated a backlash against sausage and pork products being banned in local canteens, schools, and nurseries across the country, reported IBTimes earlier this week.
The meats have been removed as a measure of protection for minority populations who culturally and religiously forbid eating pork. It is safe to assume that the millions of refugees flooding into the country are many of those offended by the Germans’ local culture and cuisine.
“The protection of minorities – including for religious reasons – must not mean that the majority is overruled in their free decision by ill-conceived consideration,” said Daniel Güenther, a CPU party member.
While Günther and others aren’t seeking to force institutions to serve pork products, they do wish to keep pork on the menu during what has been a wave of its banishment throughout Germany: “No one should be obliged to do so. But we also don’t want the majority having to refrain from pork,” he is quoted saying by Express.
Unless the Germans have all of the sudden decided they no longer like pork, Güenther and his comrades make a fair argument.
