The Islamic State has a dark vision for the future predicated on the brainwashing of children into its jihad, according to a new report by the Quilliam Foundation.
The counter-extremist think tank based in England discovered that there are currently around 31,000 women inside of the ISIS caliphate who are pregnant and giving birth to the next generation of jihadi fighters.
“That 31,000 women are pregnant in the ‘caliphate’ is very worrying indeed,” Quilliam senior researcher Nikita Malik said. “It is imperative that the international community takes a proactive rather than a reactive approach when focusing on these children.”
Children are crucial to the terror group’s plans of a global caliphate and are indoctrinated into extremist Sharia teachings early, Newsweek reported.
The girls, known as “pearls of the caliphate,” are not allowed to attend school and are taught from a young age to take care of their husbands; the boys are trained as soldiers in jihadist training camps, according to Newsweek.
“This is one of the gravest situations on earth,” Quilliam President Noman Benotman said. “Children are the key to the future. Indoctrination in Islamic State begins at birth, and increases in schools and training camps. Children are instructed in a particular interpretation of shari’a, desensitised to violence, and learn specific skills to take up the banner of jihad.”
The news came a week after video surfaced of an orphanage in Iraq being used as a jihadist training camp for children.
