A congressional contest in Nevada took on a rather contentious aura when one candidate challenged another to a fight.
State Assemblywoman Michele Fiore got into a heated exchange on Thursday with Republican primary opponent Annette Teijeiro during a debate in the race for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, seemingly challenging Teijeiro to brawl when the bell rang signaling that her time had expired, according to Crooks and Liars.
“You wanna have a fight with me?” Fiore asked. “The bell is ringing. Put your mic down.”
Teijeiro struck a nerve with Fiore when she referred to a comment the lawmaker made in December about opposing Syrian refugees resettling in Nevada. Fiore said at the time she’d rather “just put a piece of brass in their ocular cavity and end their miserable life.”
“I know you’ve been around the country, but there are problems here in Nevada,” Teijeiro said. “And you know what? We can’t solve problems by going and shooting people in the head.”
The women got into another testy exchange later in the debate when Fiore called Teijeiro a “chick.”
“This chick can’t run on her own merits, so the only thing she does is attack all of us,” the lawmaker said.
“I’m not a chick, I’m actually a medical doctor,” Teijeiro fired back. “I’m an anesthesiologist.”
Which is not to suggest that there’s anything sleep-inducing about this contest.
