No longer concerned about Bernie Sanders, the Clinton team has its sights set on Donald Trump.
According to a report in the New York Times on Monday, the Clinton team believes its greatest weapon against the Republican presidential front-runner is himself.
They plan to use negative comments he had made about minorities, particularly women — as women have not warmed to Clinton the way she anticipated — as ammo against him to sway voters on the fence.
“Hope and change, not so much. More like hate and castrate,” former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said.
The strategy would have former President Bill Clinton as the attack dog while Hillary wouldn’t have to get down in the mud with him, the Times reported.
Despite the strategy, there is fear among the Clinton camp that the usual tactics won’t work against Trump, who seems to be immune to such strategies.
They anticipate a hotly contested general election if the billionaire businessman is the Republican nominee.
“Hillary has built a large tanker ship, and she’s about to confront Somali pirates,” former strategist for President George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign Matthew Dowd told the Times.
“Can you imagine what he’ll do?” Dowd asked, adding that he believes Clinton will mention abortion rights and equality “and he’ll turn to her and say, ‘You can’t even handle your stuff at home.’”
