Donald Trump gets blamed for everything these days.
On Friday two Catholic schools from Indiana faced off in a basketball game when one team’s fans participated in taunting the other team’s fans.
Equipped with a Donald Trump Fathead and chants of “build a wall” the fans of Andrean High School took it to their rivals at Bishop Noll.
Some of the parents considered it good natured ribbing between the two teams while others bashed the display as racist.
“It was jovial,” George Galanos a parent of an Andrean student told ABC 7. “It was a lot of fun. There was hugging going on between the teams.”
“I understand they’re kids,” Ashley Howard who has a cousin who goes to Bishop Noll, told ABC 7. “You expect them to make mistakes. Maybe they didn’t know how far to push the envelope because they are rival schools, but that’s what the administration is for and that’s where the administration is supposed to step in and say, ‘hey kids, that’s not ok.'”
But it was the statement released by Bishop Knoll that seemed to take aim at Trump, as if he is responsible for what fans of a team do.
“The accusations being leveled against Andrean are being taken very seriously by Bishop Noll Institute,” the statement read. “This is a teachable moment for everyone about responsible speech, social media, and sportsmanship. Perhaps last night’s incident was an unfortunate byproduct of irresponsible speech in today’s political arena.”
Tonight at the Bishop Noll vs. Andrean (both private catholic high schools) basketball game, the Andrean “super fan”…

Nice way to shift blame off of themselves.
Social media users were also quick to cast blame on the Republican presidential front-runner.
White high school kids have taken to chanting “Trump” at Latino basketball players as an intimidation tactic. https://t.co/BQIn3c41WP

@normative .. Yes. Trump has given the White Power movement new energy in the U.S.

@normative This is the damage already done by @realDonaldTrump. He gives a voice to bigotry and “normalizes” this kind of behavior. #uspoli

Others thought the Trump blaming was ridiculous.

@USATODAY @USATODAYhss Media might hyper-extend something with this reach. Really? A chant at a HS basketball game is national news?

@wpjenna @DesBieler Media scum is desperate to push any scrap, any shred of jackshit, to smear Trump. Shame on you Jenna.

@wpjenna this is the fault of the media for lying and saying he is racist
