No he didn’t. Republican presidential contender Ben Carson played the race card on Tuesday — against the political Left!
Carson was being interviewed by Politico when he was asked about his last personal experience with “real racism,” CNS News reported.
It’s fairly certain the retired neurosurgeon didn’t give the expected answer — he made it clear that the experience was not with Republican voters.
“You don’t have to go too far,” he replied. “I think the way that I am treated by the Left is racism. They’re saying because you’re black you have to think a certain way, and if you don’t think that way, you’re an Uncle Tom.”
And Carson made it clear it was about the color of his skin.
“You’re worthy of every horrible epithet they can come up with,” he added. “Whereas if I weren’t black, then I would just be a Republican.”
Politico’s Glenn Thrush tried to lead Carson early on, noting that he was “very much in the minority in the Republican Party on this.”
“First of all, I don’t find any particular problem being an African American in the Republican Party,” the candidate replied. “I know that in the progressive side of things they like to say that the Republicans are racist, I know that. I haven’t experienced that.”
Not to be deterred, Thrush tried again: “You’ve never sort of experienced being treated differently by Republican—.”
“Not at all. Not in the slightest,” Carson interjected. “Maybe I’m just very non-observant.”
