Cruz fires top spokesman, holds presser over false Rubio mocking Bible video

Ted Cruz fired his top spokesman on Monday after he shared a video of Marco Rubio reportedly insulting the Bible.

Cruz’s communications director Rick Tyler shared a video that falsely showed Rubio telling a staffer there were “not many” answers in the Bible when in fact Rubio had said “all the answers are in there.”

“We are not a campaign that is going to question the faith of another candidate. Even if it was true, our campaign should not have sent it. That’s why I’ve asked for Rick Tyler’s resignation,” the Texas senator said at a news conference on Monday. “The standards of conduct in this campaign have been made absolutely clear.”

Rubio’s communications director Alex Conant called it a “dirty trick” by the Cruz campaign while Cruz called it a “grave error in judgment.”

“I posted in haste, I should not have done it,” Tyler told Fox News. “It was a mistake and I would not knowingly post something I knew to be false.”

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump didn’t believe the mistake was so innocent and took a swipe at Cruz over it on social media.

This latest incident comes a week after the Cruz campaign had to remove a Photoshopped image of Rubio shaking hands with President Obama from its ads.
