What this 18-year-old got away with before he was arrested for impersonating a senator is frightening!

An Ohio teenager was arrested and charged after posing as a state senator.

Izaha Akins went to Mohawk High School in December, was provided a car and driver from a local Ford dealership, toured the school and gave a speech to a class all without being found to be a fraud until weeks after the fact, the Toledo Blade reported.

Akins claimed he was replacing a lawmaker who was scheduled to appear on Jan. 15 because that senator had retired, something the school could have verified with one phone call.

The ruse was discovered when Sen. David Burke, of Marysville came to the school as scheduled.

“The presentation was about being active in politics, political processes. Everyone thought it was legit, bought into it, including the teacher,” Mohawk Schools Superintendent Ken Ratliff told the Blade.

“Mr. Stobbs said that nothing he heard there made him think this guy didn’t know what he was doing,” Ratliff said.

Akins told the paper he did it to prove a point about school security.

“These country schools think it can’t happen to them,” Akins told the Blade, adding that he intended to write a paper about it.

“I was duping to prove a point, that these kinds of things can happen. They could easily have Googled me and they didn’t,” he said.

The state lawmaker he impersonated didn’t find it to be that innocent.

“This was an extremely elaborate scheme and not a simple as walking through the door. When I learned about this, the school and I immediately began working with law enforcement,” he said in a statement released by his office.

Akins has been charged with impersonating a peace officer and telecommunications fraud.
