Rubio says so long to Jeb: It’s a three-person race now

Flanked by popular Republican politicians in South Carolina — Gov. Nikki Haley, Rep. Trey Gowdy and Sen. Tim Scott – Sen Marco Rubio declared his own victory Saturday night.

“After tonight, this has become a three-person race, and we will win the nomination,” Rubio said confidently.

It was a good night for Team Rubio, who addressed his crowd just after fellow Florida competitor and former mentor, Jeb Bush dropped out of the race.

“Jeb Bush has many things to be proud of,” Rubio said, after wishing him well. “He is an extraordinary husband, he is an extraordinary father, he was the greatest governor in the history of Florida.”

Rubio invoked God and Ronald Reagan in his speech and set himself up as a new generation of conservatism, along with Haley, Gowdy and Scott.

“Now the children of the Reagan revolution are ready to assume the mantle of leadership,” Rubio said.
