Gee, who could’ve possibly seen this coming?
A Seattle man entered a women’s locker room last week, and when staff asked him to leave, he refused, citing the state of Washington’s new-pick-your-gender policy.
On Feb. 6, a man, who did not make any effort to appear as a female, entered the women’s locker room at Seattle’s Evans Pool and began to undress.
When women in the locker room complained, staff asked the man to leave, but he told them “the law has changed and I have a right to be here.”
Seattle Parks spokesman David Takami said in a statement that they are continuing to work on the issue and that the policy relies on verbal or physical identification of gender.
“This didn’t seem like a transgender issue to staff – someone who was ‘identifying’ as a woman,” he said. “We have guidelines that allow transgender individuals to use restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity. We want everyone to feel comfortable in our facilities.”
The issue drew protesters from both sides of the spectrum on Monday.
“I think it’s completely outrageous to allow mixed sex nudity in locker rooms,” protester Jill Wade said.
Aldan Shank, a regular user of Evans Pool, said the new rules defeat the purpose for which they were intended.
“Sort of works against the point they’re trying to make. They’re causing people to feel exposed and vulnerable with the intention of reducing people feeling exposed and vulnerable,” he said.
The man was not arrested even after he returned a second time while young girls were changing for swim practice.
There is one solution but it’s doubtful the very liberal state of Washington would consider it.
Deciding who uses which locker room based on the gender God gave you. It’s only worked for thousands of years.
