There was some inter-mainstream media turmoil brewing between a CNN reporter and two of MSNBC’s biggest stars.
And who else could be at the center of the online scuffle other than GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.
The brouhaha started when Trump visited “Morning Joe” Wednesday and thanked hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for “their support.”
“You guys have been supporters,” Trump told the co-hosts. “And I really appreciate it. And not necessarily supporters, but at least believers. You said there’s some potential there.” Trump also went on to say that it was “great” seeing them the previous evening.
Yikes. That’s not a good look for the ultra-liberal network.
Scarborough immediately tried to clarify that “support” meant the hosts’ repeated prediction that Trump would win the New Hampshire primary. The two were left to hem and haw until CNN reporter Dylan Byers pounced.
Hello! @JoeNBC & @morningmika hung out in Trump’s hotel room last night during primary returns, 2 sources tell me > https://t.co/Yr1oqeeTHh

According to a CNN Money article, two sources confirmed the MSNBC hosts visited Trump in his hotel room Tuesday night while the New Hampshire votes were being tabulated.
How cozy! But, Scarborough did not appreciate the “outing.”
Your sources are wrong, and your sources are CNN reporters. You spread a different lie about us every day. https://t.co/gBcBZ51kDw
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) February 10, 2016
Did CNN hire you just to lie about Morning Joe? The obsession is unhealthy. I love CNN media “reporters” https://t.co/gBcBZ51kDw
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) February 10, 2016
Byers did not back down.
@JoeNBC My sources are not CNN reporters. My sources are right.
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) February 10, 2016
@JoeNBC would you like to state on the record that you guys were not in Trump’s hotel room last night?
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) February 10, 2016
Scarborough kept swinging, but didn’t ever directly say the “secret” rendezvous didn’t happen.
@DylanByers Troll CNN reporters. I understand you guys resent that we double your audience every day, but enough of the lying.
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) February 10, 2016
Then go on rec and say I’m wrong. This game of not responding/staying off-rec then issuing ad hominems doesn’t work https://t.co/oCXLuNoduy
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) February 10, 2016
Finally, all the arguing prompted MSNBC to offer an official statement:
CNN’s media reporter, Dylan Byers, is implying that Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski watched election returns with Donald Trump last night in New Hampshire. That is not true.
The Morning Joe hosts instead did what anchors are supposed to do — they interviewed the candidate’s senior staff to get background information on their strategy in New Hampshire, and on their campaign’s plans moving forward in South Carolina. The staff then invited the hosts to get Mr. Trump’s reaction to the victory. That discussion lasted less than five minutes. Other networks were allowed interviews as well.
It should be noted that Morning Joe is off to a great start in this election year. In January, the show had 28% more viewers than CNN’s morning show last month. And thus far in February, more people are watching Morning Joe than CNN.
I hope the anchors over at Fox News had their popcorn!
