Al Jazeera English is defending itself after being found to have edited out criticism of Muhammad from an interview with an anti-Islamization activist from the UK.
Tommy Robinson, one of the founders of PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West) appeared on the station’s “Inside Story” program to discuss his position on Islam and it was rough from the start.
The show’s host Peter Dobbie started off by attempting to fool Robinson with quotes from The Old Testament, reading them as if they were quotes from the Quran, and asking for Robinson’s thoughts on what he just heard.
“I’d ask you why you’re reading the Old Testament to me. I’m not stupid. You’re sitting quoting verses from the Old Testament thinking I’m a moron that would think that’s from the Quran. I know the Old Testament and I know the Quran,” Robinson shot back.
Robinson asked Dobbie if he was free, in Qatar where Al Jazeera and he are stationed, to criticize the prophet Muhammad to which the host replied affirmatively, but then the station’s editors cut out the next 50 seconds of the conversation.
“So you know of the life of Muhammad, yes? You know that he murdered 600 people. You know that he raped… (off-camera interruption). People in the Bible are different to the messenger of God, who is the most moral compass for every Muslim in the world. And when he is the moral compass for every Muslim in the world and he married a six year old child called Aisha and he raped her when she was nine, I have a problem with that,” Robinson said in the portion of the interview that was cut off.
When the aired portion of the show resumed Robinson asked Dobbie if someone in Qatar who was a Muslim could leave Islam and the host danced around the question stating non Muslims could enter Qatar which wasn’t the question.
The reason for that likely is that in Qatar leaving Islam is a crime punishable by death.
Al Jazeera defended itself in a statement to Breitbart UK.
“Inside Story is a pre-recorded program, and on many occasions our editorial staff make decisions on what to include or omit based on what is editorially relevant and acceptable to broadcasting standards to the particular debate being aired in the episode in question.”
