Before Nashville, Tennessee‘s, top election official resigned amidst an ongoing investigation into Election Commission spending, he had a parting shot for one of the investigative reporters who brought him down.
Former Chairman Ron Buchanan was interviewed by WSMV I-Team reporter Alanna Autler regarding the scandal when the chairman abruptly cut the interview off and called her a b*tch.
Autler asked Buchanan about some of the charges Election Administrator Kent Wall made at one of the city’s more expensive restaurants when the former chairman replied “that’s it” and walked off camera.
The reporter followed up by asking him about a picture frame he purchased for his office that cost $614.
“That’s it,” Buchanan shot back as he refused to answer.
“That’s it?” Autler questioned.
“That’s exactly the kind of b*tch I thought you would be,” the former commissioner shot back.
The exchange followed a two-month long investigation into questionable spending practices by Buchanan and Wall that culminated with the commissioner’s resignation, WSMV reported.
Some of the spending at the restaurants was for Buchanan’s meals.
The Metro policy reads the use of Metro credit cards for meals at local restaurants is “generally not allowable,” especially for non-travel-related meals.
Yet the I-Team found that Wall and Buchanan racked up $123 at Sperry’s, an upscale restaurant in Belle Meade.
Those expenditures paled in comparison to some of the more outlandish charges made to decorate Buchanan’s office, according to WSMV.
Receipts show Wall spent $140 for a frame of the Nashville skyline, nearly $150 for lamps and bookends and $614 to frame a map of Metro’s districts.
The purchases came both before and after a controversial vote made by the Davidson County Election Commission in June 2015.
The commission voted to shut down 10 early voting sites, citing a budget shortfall, even though their budget was roughly $1 million more than the previous year.
