Anthony Weiner filmmakers deny Team Hillary pressured them to cut footage

Poor Hillary Clinton finds herself at the centerĀ of yet another controversy.

In case you missed it, Sunday was the world premier of “Weiner,” a documentary originally planned to showcase the political comeback of disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner by capturing his run for mayor of New York — an effort that got waylaid when he got caught in another ‘sexting’ scandal.

Being in the right place at the right time, filmmakers Elyse Steinberg andĀ Josh Kriegman — Weiner’s former chief of staff — documented the impending firestorm.

And that’s where Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton comes into play.

The Hollywood Reporter suggested on SundayĀ that the filmmakers may have been pressured to cut footage that could be harmful to the candidate’sĀ White House bid.

Steinberg and Kriegman, who where given unrestricted access to Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, a close adviser of Clinton, denied the implication.

ā€œThere was no footage that was taken out,ā€ Steinberg told the audience at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

According to CBS News, the film shows Team Hillary was trying to shapeĀ events behind the scenes.

“The film reveals Abedin told Weiner she won’t join him at a campaign event because one of Hillary Clinton’s advisers tells her she shouldn’t go,” CBS News reported Monday.

That adviser was apparently someone named Philippe, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which said Philippe Reines served as Deputy Asst.Ā Secretary of State under Hillary Clinton and “is the likely person referenced.”

As for the filmmakers, they say the film isĀ “really about showing what it was like to be in the center of a media firestorm.”

“It’s ironic because so much of what we’re trying to do with this film is to show how much the political conversation is driven by these sensational headlines and one-liners,” Kriegman said.
