A new Bernie Sanders ad that would make any 1960’s era hippie proud has come under fire from a top Hillary Clinton supporter.
The ad features Simon and Garfunkel’s “America” while it shows people gathering at Bernie Sanders’ rallies and others doing day-to-day jobs — presumably working hard to provide enough taxes for the avalanche of free stuff they will have to foot the bill if Sanders is elected.
But as feel good as the ad is, Media Matters founder David Brock took issue with one apparent oversight by the Sanders campaign.
Brock told the Associated Press that the ad was “bizarre” in that it focused on only white voters, with almost exclusively white people represented in the video.
The longtime Clinton supporter, who runs Super PACs dedicated to getting Clinton elected, called Sanders’ ad a “significant slight to the Democratic base,” according to the Associated Press.
“From this ad it seems black lives don’t matter much to Bernie Sanders,” he said.
The Sanders campaign quickly shot back at Brock, telling the AP that Clinton ought to be “ashamed” to be associated with him.
“Twenty-five years ago it was Brock — a mud-slinging, right-wing extremist — who tried to destroy Anita Hill, a distinguished African-American law professor. He later was forced to apologize for his lies about her,” Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs told the AP. “Today, he is lying about Sen. Sanders.”
