Politics makes for strange bedfellows and it doesn’t get much stranger than Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan agreeing that Donald Trump is “wise” to be worried about Muslims being allowed to enter the United States.
The notorious purveyor of hate was railing against U.S. foreign policy on Wednesday during a radio interview when he said that the U.S. government is responsible for the current refugee crisis in the Middle East and has “united people against the West.”
Farrakhan suggested that “no Muslim leader had the power to unite the whole Muslim world” like U.S. intervention in the area has done, and seemed to agree with the Republican presidential front-runner’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.
“So in this way, Mr. Trump I think is wise to vet anyone coming from that area into America because the hatred for America is in the streets now,” he said. “So if those people are refugees and America feels, ‘I got to let 10,000 of them in,’ because America created the problem.”
He then let slip what Trump was cautioning against all along.
“Now, if you let them in and you don’t vet them carefully, you might be letting in your own destruction,” Farrakhan added.
Not that he’ll be voting for Trump anytime soon: Farrakhan included a remark he had made previously that “if the American people voted for Trump, he could take them into the abyss of hell.”
