Angry former Iranian prisoner accuses Hillary of ‘inflaming tensions’ in response to prisoner swap

An American journalist who was once a prisoner of Iran has lashed out at Hillary Clinton in the wake of her comments on the Iran – U.S. prisoner swap.

Saturday, after the deal was announced, the Democratic presidential front-runner said she was “relieved” that the five prisoners were coming home but still called for more sanctions against the Islamic regime.

“Iran is still violating UN Security Council resolutions with its ballistic missile program, which should be met with new sanctions designations and firm resolve,” she said in a statement.

That raised the ire of Mother Jones reporter Shane Bauer, one of three hikers held in Iranian custody from 2009 – 2011, who expressed his outrage on social media.

On Sunday Hillary Clinton responded to Bauer during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper.

“I appreciate what he went through when he was held prisoner in the infamous Iranian prison and we were very happy that we were able to get him and the two other hikers back home,” she said. “But we have a very clear path we are pursuing with Iran. I am pleased that we do have an agreement that is being implemented and I was part of putting that in place by getting the sanctions imposed on Iran, that the entire world went along with. But we also have made it clear from the beginning that their missile activity is still subject to sanctions. That is part of the overall approach that the administration has taken toward Iran, and that I support.”
