Cavuto calls NY Times’ Paul Krugman an unpleasant name on air

Fox News’ Neil Cavuto had little tolerance for apologists who implied that he blamed President Barack Obama during Thursday’s Republican presidential debate for the financial crisis the president inherited.

The controversy stemmed from a question Cavuto posed to Ohio Gov. John Kasich, according to TVNewser.

“We are not even two weeks into this stock-trading year but think about it: Investors have already lost $1.6 trillion in market value,” Cavuto began Thursday. “That makes it the worst start to a new year ever. Many worry that things could get even worse, and that banks and financial stocks are particularly vulnerable.”

“And, if this escalates like it did back when Barack Obama first assumed the presidency, what actions would you take, if the same thing happens all over again just as in this example you are taking over the presidency?” he asked Kasich.

The question prompted any number of responses from the left in defense of Obama, most notably from New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who accused Cavuto of being “selective.”

The Fox News host hit back on Friday’s program, saying he did not blame the president.

“For people to re-construct, like Paul Krugman in The New York Times…that I somehow manufactured a crisis and lumped it on the president…if anyone can divine any political motives to that question, you’re an ass,” Cavuto said.
