When elected officials are acting as coyotes, you know there’s a serious problem.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why a Texas city councilman fled after being pulled over by a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
Marco Rodriguez, a councilman for Crystal City, a small town southwest of San Antonio, was pulled over Saturday and spoke briefly with the border patrol agent before allegedly making a run for it, according to KENS-TV.
When agents caught up to Rodriguez again, the three occupants with him were found to be illegal aliens. He admitted to authorities that he was hired to transport them, adding that he was paid $500 and $1,400 on two other occasions, the CBS affiliate reported.
Rodriquez, 36, was charged with human smuggling and is due in federal court on Thursday.
Turns out, Rodriquez is the second city official from Crystal City to be arrested in the past two weeks. City manager James Jonas was recently arrested and charged with assaulting a woman as she tried to make her way into a city council meeting, KENS-TV reported.
And some residents have had enough, saying Rodriguez should be fired — it’s an unpaid position.
“Definitely after doing something he shouldn’t be doing, they have enough corruption here,” Jason Silva told KENS-TV. “They don’t need any more.”
