DWS embarrassed during debate as scandal brews over vice chair calling her a liar

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard fired another salvo in her ongoing feud with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she accused the Democratic National Committee chairwoman of lying about how the decision was made to limit the number of presidential debates the party will have.

This is an issue that was raised by former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley in Tuesday’s debate on CNN — as Wasserman Schultz looked on.

Gabbard, vice chairwoman of the DNC, dismissed a claim by Wasserman Schultz that the body was involved in the decision to limit the Democratic debates to six — the Hawaii Democrat was disinvited from Tuesday’s event after calling for more debates.

POLL: Who do you think won CNN’s Democratic Presidential Debate?

“I want to make it very clear that the chairwoman had claimed a month ago that she had spoken with, communicated and consulted with officers of the DNC about her decision to limit debates to six and to put this retribution policy in place, this exclusivity clause,” Gabbard said Tuesday on CNN. “And that never occurred.”

“I can tell you, speaking for myself, that I didn’t find out about her decision until after the fact,” she said. “There was no consultation and no communication.”

It doesn’t get much more definitive than that.

Meanwhile, O’Malley, who is one of the candidates calling for more debates, took a pot shot at Wasserman Schultz while on stage, calling her out by name.

“Look how glad we are to be actually talking about the issues that matter to most people around their kitchen table,” he said directly to her.

Wasserman Schultz gave O’Malley a thin smile, but who wouldn’t have been willing to give the DNC head a penny for her thoughts right about then?
