An Army veteran, who just celebrated his son’s birthday, took five bullets attempting to save people from the crazed gunman who killed nine and injured nine others at an Oregon community college, Thursday.
When the gunman, Chris Harper Mercer, began shooting on the Umpqua Community College campus, Chris Mintz, 30, a North Carolina native who moved to Oregon after his service, ran to block the door and prevent Mercer from entering the room, the New York Daily News reported.
According to his aunt, Wanda Mintz, he got shot three times and “hit the floor” but didn’t stop there.

Mintz cried out to the shooter “It’s my son’s birthday,” but rather than showing mercy, the evil killer shot him two more times.
Fortunately, despite his injuries, the Army veteran is expected to survive.
“His vital signs are okay,” his cousin, Ariana Earnhardt, told CNN’s North Carolina affiliate Fox 8. “I mean, he’s going to have to learn to walk again. But he walked away with his life.”

Mintz is undoubtedly a hero, and we may never know the lives he saved by taking those five bullets.
Social media users praised Mintz and his heroic actions, but lamented the fact that he was prevented from being armed himself.
Mad respect to Chris Mintz for not only being a vet, and a father but also a selfless hero. #StillBreathin https://t.co/F6zCy4pmk2
