It appears many conservatives just got their wish: John Boehner is retiring from Congress.
Politico reported Friday the Ohio Republican Speaker of the House announced in a closed door meeting with Republicans that he is retiring at the end of October.
A statement, read on Fox News by producer Chad Pergram, said “The speaker believes that his first job as speaker is to protect the institution.”
“He believes that putting members through a prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution,” the statement said.
According to Fox News, the move comes as pressure mounted from conservatives to defund Planned Parenthood.
