New York Yankee third basemen Alex Rodriguez was among those who paid their respects to a fan who fell to his death while booing the Yankees designated hitter.
Gregory “Ace” Murrey, 60, fell from the upper deck of Atlanta’s Turner Field in the seventh inning of the Yankees victory over the hometown Braves Saturday night.
Murrey was jeering Rodriguez as he came to bat as a pinch hitter when reports indicate that he suddenly lost his balance and fell, the New York Daily News reported.
On Sunday the Braves organization flew the American flag at half-staff and observed a moment of silence before the game, in which Rodriguez and the other Yankee and Braves players took part.
“It’s sad. Upsetting, for sure,” Rodriguez told reporters after Sunday’s game in Atlanta. “My prayers go out to his family.”
Murrey’s son Jason, 35, told the Daily News his dad, a Braves season ticket holder, died while “doing one of his favorite things – watching the Braves.”
