Republican presidential contender Ben Carson catapulted to the forefront of the political arena following his 2013 speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, where he criticized the dangers of political correctness, saying it “puts a muzzle on people.”
And given his disposition, it’s a certainty that Carson is familiar with the adage that nice guys finish last; his career stands as a counter to the very idea.
With this in mind, the retired neurosurgeon turned presidential hopeful offered his own subtle brand of criticism toward fellow candidate Donald Trump in an interview Sunday on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”
Host John Dickerson asked Carson for his take on the business magnate’s spat with Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

“I think there may be a difference between political correctness and courteous speech,” Carson replied. “There is a difference.”
“What bothers me is when people say ‘you can’t say this word, you can’t say this phrase, you can’t think that, you can’t express this,'” he said. “And it’s very difficult for people to have an honest conversation if they can’t express themselves.”
“But in no way do I advocate saying mean things about people,” Carson added. “That has nothing to do with political correctness.”
When Dickerson asked if that is what Trump was doing in regard to Kelly, Carson would only say that Trump’s antics “certainly would not be the kind of things I would engage in.”
Considering the contrast between the two men, that’s a given.
