The heart of a police officer is the heart of a life saver and hero, and a great example of that was displayed when a black law enforcement officer helped a white Neo-Nazi who was having medical issues.
The white supremacist was part of a protest in Columbia, S.C. of people who came to support the Confederate battle flag. But the blazing heat was too much for many, including a white protester, wearing a T-shirt displaying a black swastika, who was apparently suffering from heat exhaustion.
The T-shirt represents America’s largest Neo-Nazi group, National Socialist Movement, the New York Daily News reported.
That’s when one of South Carolina’s top cops, the state’s director of public safety, Leroy Smith – a black man, stepped in to help get the protester to safety, according to the News.
“It is not unusual for (Smith) to wear a uniform and assist alongside troopers and officers during these sort of events,” Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli told the News in an emailed statement.
“He had observed that the person appeared to be feeling ill from the heat and needed assistance,” she added.
Smith’s agency decided to end the rally an hour early citing safety concerns.
