‘Police state’ Dems: Paranoid party has reporters followed to the bathrooms during strategy retreat

It’s a poorly kept secret that much of the media harbors a liberal viewpoint and tend to be Democrats, but rational-minded folks have to question why that is considering how poorly they’re treated by the party.

Whether it’s Attorney General Eric Holder signing search warrants to snoop on journalists or it’s the White House shoving them into closets, the shabby treatment is hard to miss — just ask former CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson.

And right on cue, we learn that reporters covering the House Democrats’ retreat in Philadelphia last week were treated as if they might steal the silverware.

According to Politico, reporters were “escorted to and from the restroom and lobby” and “barred from entering the hotel outside of scheduled events, even if they’ve been invited by a member of Congress.”

It was enough to even prompt a complaint from normally stalwart Democrat ally The New York Times.

“It was a police state. It was absurd how heavy handed the Capitol Police and Democratic staff were in trying to control everywhere the press went,” New York Times reporter Jeremy Peters said, according to Politico.

Peters also said he was barred from entering the hotel after being invited to have breakfast with a member of Congress — the media was stationed at a separate hotel.

“I was an invited guest into this hotel, into the restaurant of the hotel,” Peters said. “The staff from the Democratic Caucus refused to let me into the hotel, and the Capitol Police told me to leave, even after the congressman went to them and said ‘no, he is my invited guest.'”

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Of course, when made aware of the heavy-handed tactics at a press conference, Democratic leadership did what you’d expected them to do — they played dumb.

“We were not aware they were following you,” said Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif. “We had to have the security in the hotel that we were in because it was expected by Capitol Police that we would be secure. This hotel, where the press was located, we did not have those types of requirements. If you want to give me some names, I’m willing to talk to them. That was not at the direction of the caucus.”

And the media chooses to demonize Republicans?
