One thing is certain, if Eric King was a member of the tea party he would be a household name in cities across America today.
King, 28, was charged Wednesday with throwing two Molotov cocktails at U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s office in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 11, the 13th anniversary of 9/11, the Associated Press reported. The Democrat lawmaker’s office was empty at the time of the attack.
Adding to the volatility, King is white and Cleaver is black — Kansas City is a little more than 200 miles from Ferguson, the scene of weeks of unrest after a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teen.
The attempted firebombing failed because the bottles filled with alcohol did not ignite, according to the Associated Press. Paper towels were stuffed in the neck of the bottles and lit, but went out in mid-air.
King was identified after police checked surveillance tape from a nearby bank, according to authorities — he tends to stick out in a crowd.
The incident was reported, but a better look at King’s extreme left-wing views may explain why it’s not leading the nightly news broadcasts.
King was arrested Tuesday as he was leaving his apartment, and a search of the residence turned up a letter entitled “Operation House Committee,” which included incriminating details linked to the attempted firebombing.
“The Missouri congress has been a willing partner in the US governments (sic) capitalist war hungry agenda,” the letter also said, according to the Associated Press.
Not your everyday tea party jargon there.
In an affidavit, authorities also referenced several Facebook posts allegedly by King, including these:
“KC Fight Back Insurrectionist Collective is alive;
“[T]hese cops aren’t going to kill themselves, get to the streets”;
“I want to leave kc better than I found or an (sic) ashes.”
Other potential targets were named, including the Federal Reserve and banks, making it somewhat ironic that he was busted by a bank surveillance camera.
