House votes Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress – what’s next?

The U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate in the investigation into whether the agency targeted conservative groups.

In the 231-187 vote, six Democrats joined the GOP in approving the contempt citation after Lerner refused to testify on Capitol Hill. Instead, she insisted she did nothing wrong, then invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren that the U.S. Attorney is obligated to take the case to a grand jury, but there was no indication of how long it may take.

In a separate vote, 26 House Democrats joined the majority in passing a resolution calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS targeting scandal.
