Rocker Ted Nugent has earned plenty of money performing before audiences, but a milquetoast Texas town is willing to pay the Motor City Madman $16,000 NOT to play.
The City of Longview planned to include musical acts as part of this year’s Fourth of July festival, with a promoter in the process of booking Nugent, the local ABC affiliate KLTV reported.
But when the outspoken rock star found himself embroiled in controversy over a recent comment he made about President Obama, organizers decided to take the politically correct route and cancel the gig.

Nugent had referred to Obama as a “subhuman mongrel” in January, which was brought to light by the media last month as he campaigned with Texas attorney general Greg Abbott, who is running for governor in the Lone Star state.
Nugent later apologized “for using the streetfighter terminology of ‘subhuman mongrel’ instead of just using more understandable language, such as ‘violator of his oath to the Constitution’.”
When asked if Nugent was paid not to perform, Longview Public Information Officer Shawn Hara told KLTV the musician was, “not the right feel for this kind of community event.”
Keith Rothra, head of the local Republican Party, called the city’s actions “very expensive political correctness.”
“I’m sad the City of Longview has done this,” he said, according to KLTV. “I think it was done by a great deal of political correctness, political pressure. We have various performers who have made all kinds of statements that rattled people’s conscience and yet they are still slated as performers.”
A Nugent spokesperson shrugged off the incident, telling the ABC affiliate the Longview event was never on the singer’s calendar and that he did not know anything about it.
