For the first time, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney commented on the actions of CNN’s Candy Crowley as moderator in his second debate with President Barack Obama.
Romney was referring to the moment in the debate when Crowley interceded in favor of Obama as he was pressing home a point about when the president actually identified the attack in Benghazi as terrorism.

According to The Daily Caller, when asked by conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt in an interview Monday if Crowley was “unfair,” Romney said:
“Well, I don’t think it’s the role of the moderator in a debate to insert themselves into the debate and to declare a winner or a loser on a particular point. And I must admit that at that stage, I was getting a little upset at Candy, because in a prior setting where I was to have had the last word, she decided that Barack Obama was to get the last word despite the rules that we had,” Romney said.
“So she obviously thought it was her job to play a more active role in the debate than was agreed upon by the two candidates, and I thought her jumping into the interaction I was having with the president was also a mistake on her part, and one I would have preferred to carry out between the two of us, because I was prepared to go after him for misrepresenting to the American people that the nature of the attack,” Romney said.
What an incredible statement.
Romney was debating the president of the United States live on national television, with millions of Americans watching, and he was clearly distracted from that task due to the actions of a moderator many will insist had a dog in the fight.
And her actions came at such a pivotal moment in the election. Obama was coming off a dismal performance in the first debate and the momentum of a second Romney win may have been too much for him to overcome.
As fate would have it, Romney would not challenge Obama again over the events of that fateful night in Benghazi, to the dismay of many Republicans.
