Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, wife of serial-sexting husband Anthony Weiner has been given an ultimatum, according to a feature article, “Hillary in Midair,” published Sunday in New York magazine.
“Huma has a choice to make,” a close associate of Abedin told the magazine, “Does she go with Anthony, or does she go with Hillary?”
While considering a 2016 presidential run, Abedin decision over whether to leave the “Clinton bubble” looks to be “the biggest question among Hillary’s circle,” the magazine reports.
Abedin began as an intern for the First Lady in 1996, when she was 20 years old and is currently chief of Hillary’s “transition office” and formerly her deputy chief of staff in the State Department.
The Clinton camp was caught by surprise by the reports that surfaced during Weiner’s failed New York mayoral campaign that he’d kept up his secret online sexting even after resigning from Congress in 2011.
According to a person familiar with the conversations, Abedin has struggled to reconcile her marriage to “Carlos Danger” — the nickname Weiner used online — with her role as Clinton’s top aide, traumatized by the prospect of leaving her boss’s inner circle, according to the article.
Further complicating Abedin’s decision may be recent reports that Bill Clinton’s alleged mistress Gennifer Flowers said the former president told her that Hillary was bisexual, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Rumors of an affair between Hillary and Abedin have been surfacing since 2007, although a Clinton aide dismissed it even then: “This does not even qualify as tabloid trash… it’s ridiculous and reckless.”
Talk about being between a rock and a hard place, Abedin must wonder why fate is being so cruel as to present her with choices such as these.
