For nearly ten years, Republican and Democrat students at a New England college have come together to place small American flags in the ground to commemorate each of the 2,977 lives stolen on Sept. 11, 2001.
While college campuses in America are infamous for adhering to a strict far-left doctrine, surely all can agree on a show of respect for the innocent lives lost on that tragic day.
Well, not at Middlebury College, a private liberal arts college located in Middlebury, Vt.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, protesters ripped all 2,977 flags out of the ground after students spent two hours putting them in place.
Witnesses say the protesters claimed the flags were on a “sacred Abenaki burial site” and were being removing to protest “American imperialism.”
Vermont has a long history with the Abenakis — a Native American tribe — but the lawn is not an officially recognized burial ground of the Abenaki people, as reported by Business Insider.
One student said removing the flags dedicated to the victims of 9/11 was “really disrespectful.”
“It was completely out of line for anybody to come remove those flags,” Sasha Schell told The Middlebury Campus. “This is a travesty.”
More likely, it’s clueless Americans who’ve been taught to hate their country and see the American flag as a symbol of conquest and colonialism. Just ask President Barack Obama.
They conveniently ignore our great achievements in pursuit of the never ending quest to “fundamentally transform” the United States of America.
Ben Kinney, president of the College Republicans, said he did get permission to erect the memorial and this is the first time he has seen protests.
