Our get-well wishes are sent to former President George H.W. Bush today as AP has reported he was admitted to the intensive care unit on Sunday.
The former President is suffering “a persistent fever” that won’t go away, said Bush spokesman, JimMcGrath.
Bush, who is 88-years old, has been hospitalized in Houston’s Methodist Hospital for a “bronchitis-like cough” since Nov. 23. The family had hoped he would have been released for Christmas since his cough had improved, but a “series of setbacks” including the fever sent him to the ICU. Doctors said the fever is not responding to Tylenol and continues to rise.
According to AP, doctors have Bush on a “liquids-only diet,” and said they are “cautiously optimistic about his treatment” though he “remains in guarded condition.”
McGrath said Bush’s family is with him. In his statement, he said:
Bush was visited on Christmas by his wife, Barbara, his son, Neil, and Neil’s wife, Maria, and a grandson, McGrath said. Bush’s daughter, Dorothy, was expected to arrive Wednesday in Houston from Bethesda, Md. The 41st president has also been visited twice by his sons, George W. Bush, the 43rd president, and Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida.
