Memorial Day – Our Nation's Fallen Remembered

Dear Fellow Patriot,

Monday, Memorial Day, will mark a day in which it is often celebrated as the beginning of summer for most people and a day of grilling out, relaxing at the beach or lake, and time to enjoy a “day off” from work long overdue. Some will enjoy festivals and other activities and some will not give much thought to the meaning of this day.

It marks a time in America is which we remember those fallen heroes who took that pledge to defend this nation from all enemies and have left this world on the battlefields and seas in defense of our Liberty and Freedom. It means a time when the wreaths are placed at the Tombs of the Unknown Soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery and the America Flag is placed beside every headstone in cemeteries throughout the world where America soldiers are buried.

The Flag meant more to these men and women because they were raised under it, played under it, fought under it , and died and were buried under it- all for the belief that freedom meant more than life itself.They believed it was far better to die defending freedom than to leave their families without ever knowing what freedom really was.

It marks the time when “Taps” will be played again by the lone bugler to remind us of their sacrifice such as we are reminded by the words of the last verse of that song;

“While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.”

Composed during the Civil War, it was written as a bugle call for “lights out” for the soldiers and to mark the end of the day. It became the last sound ever played at the funeral of a lost comrade. “Taps” reminds us that their souls still live in honor and in valor.

On Monday, please take the time to remember the sacrifices and the lives lost in preserving our nation and our American way of life. Let us EACH become Patriots for a moment and thank those who served and died for the United States of America. Enjoy the holiday, but enjoy too, the freedom we have because of these brave and heroic men and women who gave their all.
