Republican rivals looking to replace U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson lag behind the controversial lawmaker in fundraising, based on expected 1st quarter results. A trend that will certainly need to change, if conservatives truly want to see change in 2010.
Rep. Kurt Kelly, R-Ocala, announced his first-quarter fundraising total today – roughly $130,000 so far this year, his first fundraising quarter since he announced his candidacy. But that’s less than half the $300,000-plus that Winter Park businessman Bruce O’Donoghue says he’ll report — and just more than double the $55,000 that attorney Todd Long, the leading challenger, based on a recent Zogby poll, says he’ll report. No totals to report, as of this point, for the other candidates running in district 8.
This currently gives O’Donoghue a sizable fundraising edge over his GOP rivals. But Grayson, a multi-millionaire attorney in his first term, says he has $1.5 million in the bank and is in a position to outspend everyone currently in the race.
