Canvassing board misses deadline, Murphy claims victory

UPDATE 11/18, 11 p.m.

The canvassing board may have missed the deadline for submitting the vote total to the state , but the completed count showed Patrick Murphy actually gained 242 votes in the highly Democratic St. Lucie County.

West’s campaign manger, Tim Edson, was cautious in his response Sunday. He said that there were things to be examined before he would consider commenting on conceding.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, West said this about the results:

“Since Election Day we have been working for a fair and accurate accounting of the election outcome in which voters can put their full trust.  We will review the results of today’s recount and the other available data to determine how to proceed.  I have been humbled by the support we have received and the hard work of so many to ensure the integrity of this process.

We look forward to the report which will be issued by the Secretary of State’s auditors this coming week which we hope will shed light on some of the outstanding issues.”

Patrick Murphy is claiming victory once again in the District 18 race, as Sunday’s 12 o’clock deadline for certifying the results of the election to the state has passed. Official statements from all parties on what steps they will take next have not been released.

One of the reasons the board could not certify the results on time was an alleged problem with uploading information.

Attorney Beverly Hires has suggested the state get more involved . “Ken Detzner, Florida’s chief elections officer  has the power to take legal action, and I requested that he do so on Thursday. Today’s events should compel him to take immediate action.”

“There is a cloud of suspicion that demands action to protect our votes,” said Hires.
