Cori Bush is seeking a new communications assistant, and the jokes write themselves

U.S. Rep. Cori Bush is in urgent need of a new communications assistant and a job posting set off a wave of mockery on social media.

The Missouri Democrat, who is now under a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, is evidently in need of someone to serve as a communications and staff assistant. A listing saying the congresswoman was “urgently hiring” for the position was posted on the job search website, Daybook.

The timing raised eyebrows.

“Bush’s team told Newsweek that the job was initially posted on her campaign page on January 23, before the news of the DOJ investigation broke and that her office had never engaged with Daybook,” Newsweek reported.

The listing was posted the same day Bush confirmed she was the subject of the probe into the alleged misuse of campaign funds in hiring her husband to be part of her security detail.

The deadline for applicants was Wednesday and the listing says Bush is seeking “an eager, organized, and detail-oriented individual” to serve in the dual role.

“Applicants should be ready to work individually and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent communication skills and a desire to deliver for the people of Missouri’s First Congressional District,” the posting on the entry-level position stated.

The assistant would be responsible for “managing the front office which consists of answering phones, welcoming visitors, and logging constituent opinions” as well as “coordinating tour and flag requests, sorting and tracking all mail, and completing tasks assigned by the Member, Chief of Staff, and Director of Operations.”

“This position requires excellent writing skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, work well under pressure, flexible work schedule, and some nights and weekend work required,” the description reads, adding that the salary ranges from $55,000–58,000, with “a generous benefits package.”

Reaction on social  media poured in after the Daybook posting, with many mocking what a “great time” it was for a new hire to “come on board.”
