Zac Brown Band explains why bandmates were denied entry to Canada, despite playing twice in 2022

Fans north of the border who had planned to see the award-winning country music group the Zac Brown Band deliver one of their rousing live performances were disappointed when the band announced that it was forced to cancel its Friday night concert in Vancouver, BC after some crew members were denied entry into Canada.

Even though the band has performed in Canada for over a decade including a June stop in Toronto on their current “Out in the Middle Tour” where they delivered the goods to fans, they were forced to call off the show due to problems at the border over old charges on the records of members that have since been removed.

“We’re sorry to announce that we won’t be able to perform in Vancouver tonight. Our Canadian fans are incredible, and we would love nothing more than to share an evening of music together. Some of our crew members had charges on their records from over a decade ago that have since been removed. Our team has regularly performed in Canada for 10 years, including two performances this year alone,” the band announced on its Facebook page, explaining why they wouldn’t be playing at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.

“Each time we’ve come to Canada, we have been at the mercy of a single border agent who decides who is allowed in to work, and unfortunately, not everyone was able to make it in the country last night. We are a family, a tribe. We stick together and support each other and we never leave anyone behind,” the group said. “As a band who prides themselves on showing up with excitement and professionalism, we will always play where we are welcome and appreciated, and we’re so sorry we can’t be there tonight.”

The venue attributed the canceled show to “unforeseen logistical issues” and announced that there will be refunds for all tickets through the point of purchase on its website.

A source provided additional details to People magazine: “Zac and his band and crew were detained in Vancouver for two hours because a few of his crew members had infractions that had been expunged years and years ago. Zac refused to leave his crew members behind because they’re like a family, so he decided to cancel the show. He’s super upset about it because he loves his fans but he always says his crew — they’re like a family.”

Twitter users reacted with disappointment as well as anger at Canada.

The close-knit Georgia-based band has been together for 20 years during which they have put out seven studio albums, two live albums and have toured extensively, scoring multiple Grammys for their unique southern country rock sound.

The Zac Brown Band will perform at their scheduled tour stop in Portland on Saturday followed by shows in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, Phoenix and a New Year’s Eve bash in Nashville before traveling across the pond for a handful of concerts in the UK next year where they hope to have better luck at the border than in Justin Trudeau’s fascist Canada.
