The body of missing 20-year-old Princeton University student Misrach Ewunetie was found on-campus Thursday with her cellphone nearby, despite claims from the family on Sunday that it had “pinged” in the suburbs of Montgomery Township.
The scholarship student was last seen at approximately 3 a.m. last Friday, near the Scully Hall dorm building, Fox News reports. On Monday, Princeton tweeted Ewunetie’s photo and urged anyone with information to contact the Department of Public Safety.
Ewunetie, 20, was last seen about 3am Friday in the vicinity of Scully Hall.
She is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has brown eyes, black hair and light brown complexion.

Six days later, her remains were found “outside on the Facilities grounds” near the tennis courts by a university employee, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office.
In a statement, prosecutors said, “There were no obvious signs of injury and her death does not appear suspicious or criminal in nature,” adding that an autopsy will be performed.
Ewunetie’s family had told The Sun that, while monitoring the “Find My Friends” app, they saw her cellphone “ping” on Sunday at an address off-campus, investigators told Fox News Digital that her phone was found near her body, which they did not feel had been “placed” near the tennis courts.
It is unclear if the app malfunctioned or if the student had gone off-campus to the address and then returned.
According to the Daily Mail, the area in which Ewunetie’s remains were found — 1.5 miles from where she lived — is remote and requires an authorized badge for entrance.
After another student dropped out, Ewunetie had, at the last minute, volunteered for “housekeeping tasks” at a live music event being held at the university’s Terrace Club on the night she went missing, Alexander Moravcsik, the leader of the club, told Fox News Digital.
Princeton once again took to Twitter to announce the tragic news.

“It is with great sadness that we share heartbreaking news about the death of Misrach Ewunetie ’24,” the tweet read.
In an attached statement, Princeton Vice President for Campus Life W. Rochelle Calhoun wrote, “Misrach’s death is an unthinkable tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family, her friends and the many others who knew and loved her.”
“We are planning an opportunity for students to join together and remember Misrach,” the statement continued. “Information about the gathering will be shared separately when details are known.”
“Princeton is a close-knit community and we mourn Misrach together,” the university stated.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy offered his condolences.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic news that missing @Princeton University student Misrach Ewunetie was found dead this afternoon,” he tweeted. “Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and fellow students who knew and loved her.”

At just 20 years old, Ewunetie’s future looked bright. According to the Daily Mail, she was valedictorian of her high school and, in 2020, graduated from the Minds Matter Cleaveland program, a non-profit that assists “high-achieving low-income students.”
At the Ivy League university, she was majoring in sociology and minoring in computer science.
Prior to the discovery of her remains, Ewunetie’s brother, Universe, told CNN on Thursday that campus authorities and prosecutors were keeping the family “in the dark” about the search.
“There’s no constant update or interaction with us,” he said before her body was found. “We’re really kept in the dark.”
When told by authorities that the investigation would take time, Universe stated, “That’s one thing we don’t have, we don’t have time.”
