Dem pollster on MSNBC declares Florida the ‘MAGA Republican capital of the Confederacy’

If you need to get something completely divisive, riddled with hyperbole, and without any foundation in fact off your chest — assuming Joy Reid’s show is booked and Whoopi Goldberg won’t take your calls — you can always head to MSNBC’s “The Cross Connection,” where host Tiffany Cross will enthusiastically welcome you with affirming nods and no threats of anything as messy as journalistic integrity.

This explains why Democratic pollster Fernand Amandi frequently appears on Cross’s show to verbally vomit inflammatory claims like the ones he made on Friday against Floridians.

Following Cross’s reliably ridiculous introduction in which she called Florida a “haven of hate,” Amandi declared the Sunshine State to be the “MAGA Republican capital of the Confederacy,” as though he were asking the host to hold his hate-filled beer.

“If we are all honest with one another,” Amandi began, “we have to recognize that Florida is not just a radicalized state with leadership that not only seems to be hostile to the rule of law and American democracy, I think you can go ahead and say right now Florida is the MAGA Republican capital of the Confederacy.”

The panel, which included former FBI official Frank Figluizzi, was convened to discuss a conveniently narrative-affirming report from the Anti-Defamation League titled “Hate in the Sunshine State: Extremism & Antisemitism in Florida, 2020-2022” that found, among other things, that “Florida is home to the most people charged in relation to the January 6 insurrection.”

“Of the 855 individuals charged in connection to the insurrection, 90 (10.5%) hail from the state of Florida,” the ADL writes.

“The past two years have seen a significant increase in extremist related incidents both nationwide and in the state of Florida. These incidents have been driven, in part, by widespread disinformation and conspiracy theories which have animated extremists and fueled antisemitism,” the report reads. “The result: unrest and violence, from the January 6 insurrection to white supremacist activity to a spike in hate crimes.”

It is clearly a blatant attempt by the ADL to smear Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and all of the Republicans across America who support him — and predictably, Tiffany Cross is pleased to do her propaganda-spreading best to amplify the divisive message.

Before pivoting to Amandi, Cross first gave Figluizzi his opportunity to paint Floridians as domestic terrorists.

Figluizzi noted that Michael Flynn and Roger Stone are “already planted down there” and said, “Florida is the third-largest state in terms of population but yet, by far, it has the most residents arrested for violence in January 6th. And, even worse, the report turns out to say that over a third of those people arrested from Florida from January 6th are actually networked with, have ties to larger extremist groups like Oath Keepers and Proud Boys.”

“So, it is a safe environment,” he stated. “They have been given license by people like Ron DeSantis [and] Senator Marco Rubio.”

And then Amandi got his chance to fan the flames of faux fury.

Florida, he stated, is “the new confederacy where all of these folks are based out of.”

“It’s no accident, as you heard Frank Figliuzzi list,” he continued. “All of the folks that were part of the MAGA Republican movement consider this safe territory. Donald Trump and the Trump administration in exile, his handpicked protégé Ron DeSantis, and not to mention of all those extremist groups.”

“It’s no surprise,” he claimed, “that you have this as the point of the spear of the new MAGA Republican Confederate movement, which unfortunately is only leading to the inevitable, which I think will be a break with our American democracy.”

On Twitter, many are rightfully unimpressed with Cross’s rhetoric or that of her guests.

“Ever wonder how to tell if someone is a pathological liar?” asked one user. “Because they lie to themselves so thoroughly, convincingly their beliefs have no logical consistency.”
