ALL books should be allowed? Controversy follows Jill Biden’s comments on school library bans

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) seems to have lit up Twitter by sharing a video clip of first lady Jill Biden opining on library book access.

FIRE, a respected, nonpartisan organization that has often defended conservatives on radical-left college campuses, has a stated mission of defending and sustaining “the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought.”

In the footage from the NBC “Today” show that FIRE sent to its nearly 72,0000 Twitter followers, in which NBC labels Mrs. Biden as “Dr. Biden,” even though she has no expertise or training in the healing arts, the latter responded to a question about the extent to which parents should participate in school curriculum.

The president’s wife is a former English teacher who received a Ph.D. (i.e., a doctor of philosophy) in educational leadership from the University of Delaware in 2007.

Parenthetically, in December 2020, Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed that Biden’s dissertation (the longform term paper required to complete the academic degree,) was loaded with typos, which suggested that she might be “borderline illiterate.”

During a part of a softball interview with “Today” correspondent Sheinelle Jones, Jill Biden, in part, sounded like a public relations rep for teachers’ unions, when she said that “Well, I think with the pandemic, parents saw how hard teachers work, and how difficult this job really is.”

As an aside, parents also found out how much far-left indoctrination was taking place, which prompted many of them, as was well chronicled, to show up at school board meetings and demand a return to reading, writing, legitimate history, and mathematics.

“And I think if they work together in their school districts, and decide what they want with their curriculum,” Jill Biden added in the interview that looks like it was filmed in a school library.

In a follow-up question about which books should be placed on school library shelves, Biden asserted that “all books should be in the library. All books. This is America. We don’t ban books.”

Unfortunately, in districts around the country, what many parents consider pornographic materials have found their way into K-12 libraries.

Obviously, censorship runs counter to the American tradition, a premise that most of Jill Biden’s Democrats have generally abandoned.

There are additional considerations, however, when children are involved, which the left often has a difficult time acknowledging.

FIRE did not provide any further elucidation on social media to accompany the video, and maybe that will be forthcoming in a form of clarification.

Many Twitter users implied, however, that FIRE was conflating school libraries — which require reasonable literary guardrails for age appropriateness — with libraries generally (or perhaps even book stores).

Here is a sample of the extensive response to Jill Biden’s remarks as shared by FIRE:
